About us

 The firm Catba Sailing Junk is born in 2009. It was the idea of 3 persons in love of Halong Bay and of traditional junks, 2 Vietnamese and 1 Frenchman:

-          Cuong is born in Viet Hai fishing village in Cat Ba National Park. Its nickname, CuongMan, given by Cat Ba inhabitants come from his deeper knowledge of Halong Bay and from its 20 years of experiences of sail on fishing sailboats, commercial boats and sail junks between Bai Tu Long bay, Halong bay and Lan Ha bay.
He is responsible for techniques building choices for our junks, the research of new places and the recruitment of crew members.

-          Son, who lives in Hanoi, is the founder of the travel agency Vietnam Insolite Voyage specialized in custom-made travels, on unbeaten tracks and far from the touristic places all over in Indochina. Concerned with the quality and the authenticity of his travels, he decided with Cuong to build the first traditional junk, the Cat Ba Princess which has 2 cabs in 2009, in order to give the possibility to his client to have a cruise far away from touristic paths, in a private junk, from Cat Ba.
He is in charge of the interior decoration, the marketing and junks booking. Son and his wife Ngoc, perfect french and english-speaker, answer all your questions about your cruise in the bay. They offer also transfers from Hanoi, the Hai Phong  airport or terrestrial Halong bay to the junk with or without a guide.

-          François, a Frenchman, divides his time between France, the island of Reunion and Vietnam. Passionate about Asia, he has been to Vietnam for the first time at the beginning of the 90’s. Fell in love with the country, he came back several times each year. He met Son during one of his travels and they became friends. Interested in Halong bay and specially in traditional junks project, junks he had never seen again for 10 years in Halong bay, he decided to join the project and to build with Son and Cuong the forth junk, the Cat Ba Imperial Junk of 4 cabs. As he knows Vietnam at his fingertips, he is ready to answer to all your questions in order to help you to organize your travel with an European look. He also takes care of the website.
 
We own 4 sail junks (Cat Ba legend, Cat Ba Princess, Cat Ba Prince and Catba Imperial) in which 2 to 10 persons can sleep.
Our boats are based in Cat Ba, which give you the possibility to discover places unknown by the others cruises : Lan Ha bay, Bai Tu Long bay.
Our wishes are to share with you our love of the bay, to show you magic places fully preserved, to give you unforgettable moments to share in couple, in family or with friends.
